  1. Biochemistry is science concerned with the
  2. chemistry of living organisms, the structure
  3. nd reactions of proteins, nucleic acids, 
  4. carbohydrates, and lipids. Its study has led
  5. to an increased understanding of life 
  6. processes, such as those by which organisms 
  7. synthesize essential chemicals from food 
  8. materials, store and generate energy, and 
  9. pass on their characteristics through their 
  10. genetic material. A great deal of medical 
  11. research is concerned with the ways in which
  12. these processes are disrupted. Biochemistry
  13. also has applications in agriculture and in
  14. the food industry.
